At Prestefoss Mill in Gjerstad Norway, the yearly Mølla music gathering will be arranged for the forth time in nature's own beautiful backyard, The forest, hills and falls creates an exciting magic atmosphere around the festival. When nightfall comes, the area is drenched in candlelight, burning firewood, energetic music and a smoke cloud of mystery. The surroundings are unique as a festival context, and as far as we know, there’s no other concert arena like it in the world.
Versatile music styles in picturesque surroundings.
The Mølla festival is a yearly music gathering in nature's backyard. The festival goal is to give less known bands a chance on the stage. Hoping to contribute with some fresh recruitments for the music trade, simultaneously giving the audience a versatile music experiment in picturesque surroundings.
The gathering is staged by a group of voluntary non-paid workers. The bands receive travelling funds if necessary and food in their stomach, otherwise they play for free. Profits from the arrangement are used to fund future festivals.
A cultural institution
The cultural institution Prestefoss Mill is starting to become quite well known in the world of music, both here in Norway and abroad, thanks to Mølla Lydstudio (The sound studio at the mill) owned by Knut Magne Valle. The Mill houses a large-scale studio, a soundproof practice room, and accommodation for long-distance travellers. The place is also open for all youths that want to engage in music.
Jarle Grimsland whom is a stringed instrument maker, has also his workshop in the mill, and festival participants will be able to hear and see his work during the festival.
The stage, the worlds biggest festival- sub’s, ecological food, a playground and beverages
The stage is of solid timber and bigger then Rockefeller in Norway (according to the guys that built it). It was initiated last year and it lived up to our expectations. We have a world-class sound system and the worlds biggest sub-speakers. They received a face-lift last year so they are still going strong.
We will be serving beer and vine this year also, for a manageable price. It is therefore not allowed to bring alcohol or by any means glass bottles onto the festival area.
The kitchen will attend to anyone that wishes ecological/homemade food for a reasonable price. Hamburgers, soft – drinks, ice cream, cakes, and waffles fresh from the waffle iron, will also be on the menu.
We also have a small area reserved for youngster, with some playground equipment. So take the kids along, Mølla is for everyone, both old and young.
Camping opportunities
The Mølla festival have the use of two camping grounds if anybody wants to stay over. We have a peaceful family campground that’s situated nearby and a base-camp that lies just above the festival area only a one minute walk from the stage. There is also access to several great bathing places, two at the Mill and one nearby, with a long shallow sand beach that’s just perfect for children.
In case of rain, and the lavvo (canvas tepee)
If rain is predicted, there will be stretched tarpaulin between the trees to protect the audience. So bad weather is a poor excuse for not participating at this year's gathering. We are sorry to say that the lavvo received a tough beating this winter because of all the snow. For the moment it is not sure what will happen to it.
12 live concerts
With 12 live concerts distributed upon Friday and Saturday, from 18:00 o’clock on Friday and 12 o’clock on Saturday, we have really laid out for a versatile music experience. With everything from pop, rock, jazz, funk, hard-rock and metal there should be something for everybody’s taste. Besides the 10 bands from Norway there will also be a band from Greece and a band from Geneva (Switzerland) coming to play.
Flame - show
The flame blower will of course be there both days creating a extra lively frame around the festival. There will be various booth, and maybe a surprise or two. We have to see what we can make happen. We are of course glad for any interaction from the audience …. That’s always welcomed.
Friendly prices
Our prices are friendly like everything else at the mill. Tickets can only be purchased at the gate. A camping spot is included in the weekend ticket.
